Hypertension is among the most common causes of mortality in many countries. Although this disease is widely studied, the pathogenesis of hypertension in human is not completely understood. To better understand the specific mechanisms involved, as well as to research treatments, various animal models have been developed to mimic the hypertensive response seen in humans. As in humans, diet choice is one of the main environmental factors that induce hypertension and related disease.
